If you’ve been looking to add Qi wireless charging to your desk, table, or shelf, IKEA’s new $40 wireless charging pad is the perfect solution. You can mount IKEA’s Sjömärke wireless charging pad yourself, anywhere you want, and it’ll charge through wood and plastic, hidden on the underside of your furniture.

With this new $40 charger, no saws, hex keys, screwdrivers, or DIY skills are required. This charger isn’t like most Qi charging pads, where you’d put your phone or earbuds directly on the mat. You don’t have to cut a hole in your desk, either. Instead, use double-sided tape or velcro strips and mount it underneath your desk, coffee table, or even in a side-table drawer. That way, it’s hidden in plain sight for a clean and easy setup.

Considering this charging pad has to charge through wood or plastic, it does have a few limitations. More specifically, it doesn’t work with many of IKEA’s own furniture, as the surface can only be between 3/8 and 7/8 of an inch thick. Desks with thick wood tops won’t work, and as expected, it can’t charge through metal.

The Sjömärke wireless charging kit comes with a 7-inch by 3-inch charging mat, cable, sticky pads for installation, and a clear sticker to put on top of your desk to easily align devices to get a charge.

Keep in mind that it’s compatible with the latest Qi 1.2.4 profile, which means it only charges at 5W. So don’t expect faster charging like we’ve seen from Samsung, Google, or Apple as of late. Still, being able to easily add wireless charging to almost any table or desk for just $40 makes it a great option for those interested.
